Welcome to the beginning of a beautiful relationship.
Every week Cameo Vineyard's resident, Sommelier or winemaker will keep you updated on all the latest and greatest.
What shall it be each time? Well you never know in the world of wine, one week it could be a discussion on a great wine, the next the life and times on a working winery/vineyard. As well as upcoming events, issues, legal information as new states are allowing wines to be shipped in.
I am also establishing a link to Free The Grapes, this way you will be kept abreast as to what is going on with State Shipping Laws. That being said, I would like to share one of my greatest wine moments in life.
This adventure was mid summer of 2005, My son, mother and I were up visiting life long friends near Napa Valley, we had made a few other stops at some amazing wineries, sampled some oh so yummy wine.
When we made our final stop of the afternoon, this was at Opus One Winery, this being my first time at Opus, I tried so hard to keep my jaw off the floor, it was a sight I will never forget. The next thing I remember, after telling myself to act mature and sophisticated in this regal efface, was asking our guide : Can I work here?" well so much for sophistication.
Here is a little back story of Opus One.... When Robert Mondovi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild met in 1970, Rothschild proposed a joint venture. However, it was not until 1978 that Mondovi traveled to Bordeaux at the invitation of the Baron. Within an hour history was made. Then in 1984, the 1979 and 1980 vintages were simultaneously unveiled as Opus Ones first release. Rothschild did not live long enough to see the groundbreaking and construction completion, as he died in 1988 at the age of 86, but the Baroness kept his vision going and continued in his footsteps.
What I experienced at Opus One was nothing short of heart stopping. The building literally rises out of the earth, with both classical European and Contemporary California elements. The surroundings are beautiful and the atmosphere made you feel as if you were royalty. It was one of the best visits that day and I will never forget it. If dreams do come true, I will work there some day. The barrel room is the most unique I have ever seen.
We stood in a circular room with rows and rows of barrels filled with wines. The smells - exotic, the sight - breathtaking.
Stay tuned for next weeks tale of sweet devotions, tepid temperments and room temerature attitude.
For now......Salute'
The Wine Lady
